Cathinone is the parent compound of many synthetic stimulants and is closely related to amphetamine and methcathinone. In natural form, cathinone is found in the leaves of the khat plant (Catha edulis), where it is sometimes just referred to as the active stimulant of khat. Another common name for cathinone is β-keto-amphetamine (beta-keto-amphetamine).
